Our Mission

Vision

To deliver a holistic professional interdisciplinary health service for children and adolescents which is efficient, effective, timely, and seamless from an accessible centralised unit and which offers outreach in the community through the promotion of advocacy, collaboration, and socio-education within the legislative framework whilst respecting different cultures and diversity in society

History

The CAYS Gozo was established in Gozo in August 2024, followed by the opening of a temporary site in Malta in Birkirkara in 2025.

Prior to the launch of CAYS, services addressing the chronic physical and mental health needs of children, adolescents, and young people in Malta were provided separately. The Child Development Assessment Unit (CDAU) focused on chronic physical conditions, while the Child and Young People’s Services (CYPS) managed chronic mental health conditions.

Although many service users required support from both CDAU and CYPS, the coordination between the two units was limited. To address this gap and improve continuity of care, these services were therefore integrated under the umbrella of CAYS.
