Community Paediatrics

The Community Paediatrics team is made up of specialist children’s doctors who evaluate and manage a wide range of developmental, physical and social issues that can affect a child’s wellbeing, safety, learning and long-term potential.

The team works with other professionals and agencies as part of an interdisciplinary team, including:

  • therapists (speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and physiotherapists)
  • hospital based doctors
  • social workers
  • schools

Our services:

  • Helping children with developmental and complex health needs
  • Assessing and decide the best way to help children with a developmental impairment, physical or learning disability, or with complex health needs (neurodevelopment and neuro-disability services)
  • Working together with CAMHS to perform specialist assessments of school-age children, where there is a concern regarding a neuro-developmental disorder, for example, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or autistic spectrum disorders (ASDs).
  • Providing detailed neurological and developmental follow ups of children who were born prematurely or with significant perinatal problems (neurodevelopmental paediatrics)
  • Following up children with neurodevelopmental disorders to support them throughout their journey through childhood (neurodevelopmental paediatrics)
  • Supporting our clients’ families by being the connecting link between medical, education, and social services (social paediatrics)
  • Working with social services to assess children who may have been abused or considered to be at risk of abuse (child protection and safeguarding)
